Penn Medicine Heart & Vascular Clinical Activity Report - 2013
2013 Concept for the award-winning 60-page annual report distributed world-wide to over 55,000 health care CEOs, managers and chiefs of surgery to advertise Penn Medicine’s Heart & Vascular Surgery Outcomes.
The theme of this year’s book is not just one word as in the past, but a tri-part mission: Pioneering the future of medicine through innovation, individualized care and instruction.
The concept and graphic style from the book is drawn from the simplicity of the triangle as a shape to convey the tri-part mission. Clean visuals, pitting black and white photography against pops of bright color mesh the sophistication of a renowned academic medical center with the innovation of a cutting edge treatments and therapies.
In many ways this design also pulls inspiration from the digital world and is meant to be digitally integrated. When complete, this book will be accompanied by a robust online media and digital assets of video, flash animation and interactive graphs.
Graphically, there are small digital references: when the triangle is tilted on its side, it represents a play button. The intro spread (dark blue flood) about innovation references digital infographics and the facts seems to hang suspended in space. The interior layout, laden with text, graphs and images, is surrounded by as much white space as possible and relies heavily on only a grid and thin gray lines to separate information.
In addition to the printed piece, this book is accompanied by a robust online media and digital assets of video, flash animation and interactive graphs.
